About
Orchestra of Sound and Light was founded by composer Ed Hughes and producer Liz Webb in 2016 to share the excitement of live music-making and composing with film and other arts through participatory projects ranging from primary schools to major Festival commissions
OSL has presented workshops and performance projects across West and East Sussex, including two major performances at the Brighton Festival in 2016 and 2018. OSL has so far received support of approximately £70,000 from Arts Council England for four projects in music performance and education, including 'South Downs Songbook' workshops in schools and colleges, and new digital resources, and in 2025 for a project inspired by Charlotte Smith's poem 'Beachy Head'. Support has also been received from Vaughan Williams Foundation and Hinrichsen Foundation. Partners have included Create Music, West Sussex Music, Brighton Dome and Festival, Towner Eastbourne, South Downs National Park Authority, University of Sussex and Attenborough Centre for Creative Arts.
